Our seafood story

Insula AS was established in 2015 as a seafood group with headquarters in Leknes in Lofoten, Norway. Through our portfolio of strong and traditional Nordic companies, we collect and build solid, interdisciplinary expertise related to processing and sales of seafood.     • Glyngøre logo

      2019 Amanda Seafoods aquires Glyngøre brand

      Amanda Seafoods AS aquires Glyngøre, a well known brand in Denmark for herring and tuna.

    • Bornholms logo

      2019 Amanda Seafoods aquries Bornholms

      Amanda Seafoods AS aquires Bornholms AS, and the production activity is being moved to Frederikshavn.

    • Insula hvide Sande logo

      2018 Insula Hvide Sande AS is established

      Insula Hvide Sande AS is established through the acquisition of the Søndergaard AS on the Danish west coast. With this purchase, the group builds its strength within filleting and nitrogen freezing of fresh fish.

    • Insula Hanstholm logo

      2018 Insula Hanstholm is established

      Insula Hanstholm AS is established through the acquisition of FAMM AS located in Denmark's leading consumer fishing port. Among other things, the country's largest fish auction takes place here.

    • Logo Fiskeriet

      2018 Insula establishes Fiskeriet Sweden AB

      As part of INSULA's targeted effort to increase seafood consumption in Sweden, Sjöboden alt i fisk changes name and becomes Fiskeriet Sweden.

      2017 Maritim Food AS becomes part of INSULA

      INSULA strengthens its position in the production of fish food, canned goods and dressings in Norway through the acquisition of Maritim Food AS.

    • Logo Vardøbruket

      2017 Vardøbruket AS becomes part of INSULA

      INSULA strengthens its position in the whitefish market through the acquisition of Vardøbruket AS in northern Norway.

    • Logo Berggren

      2017 Berggren AS becomes part of INSULA

      INSULA buys into Berggren AS in Kongsvinger, gaining greater expertise in fish food production in Norway.

    • Logo Nordic Group

      2017 Nordic Group AS becomes part of INSULA

      INSULA strengthens its position in the whitefish market through the acquisition of the tradition-rich trading company Nordig Group located in Trondheim, Norway.

    • Logo Escamar

      2017 Insula establishes itself in Finland through Escamar Seafood Oy

      INSULA acquires Apetit's seafood division (formerly Kuopion Kalatukku Oy) and thus establishes itself in the Finnish market. The company changes its name to Escamar Seafood.

      2017 Sjöboden allt i fisk becomes part of INSULA

      INSULA buys Sjöboden allt i fisk, strengthening its position in the fresh fish market in Sweden.

      2017 Lobster Seafood AB becomes part of INSULA

      INSULA strengthens its position in the Swedish catering and wholesale market through the acquisition of Lobster Seafood AB.

      2017 Båtsfjordbruket AS becomes part of INSULA

      Insula buys Båtsfjordbruket AS to strengthen its position in the raw materials market.

      2017 Insula establishes itself in Denmark through the acquisition of Amanda Seafoods AS

      INSULA buys the 100-year-old company Amanda Seafoods AS in Frederikshavn, and thus positions itself in Denmark.

    • Logo Sjøfrisk

      2016 Sjøfrisk AS is established

      INSULA establishes the sales company Sjøfrisk AS as a sales channel to the Norwegian grocery chain REMA 1000.

    • Logo Tobø

      2016 TOBØ Fisk AS becomes part of INSULA

      INSULA strengthens its whitefish position through the acquisition of one of Norway's northernmost fishing industry companies.

    • Logo Frøya

      2016 Frøya Salmon AS becomes part of INSULA

      INSULA incorporates the Norwegian-owned brand Frøya Salmon into its portfolio, strengthening its export ventures outside the Nordic region.

      2016 First Seafood AS becomes part of INSULA

      INSULA incorporates First Seafood AS in its portfolio, strengthening its export ventures from Norway.

    • Logo Västkustfile

      2016 Västkustfilé AB becomes part of INSULA

      INSULA strengthens its presence in southern Sweden through the acquisition of Västkustfilé AB in Varberg.

    • Logo Conchilia

      2016 Conchilia AS becomes part of INSULA

      INSULA acquires a minority stake in Conchilia AS, strengthening its position in the shellfish market.

    • Logo MaxMat

      2015 MaxMat AS becomes part of INSULA

      INSULA takes over MaxMat's fish food and fish spreads production operations in Bodø, Norway.

    • Logo Fiskcentralen

      2015 Fiskcentralen AS becomes part of INSULA

      INSULA acquires Fiskcentralen AS, strengthening its position in the distribution and sale of freshly packed fish and seafood in the south-eastern part of Norway.

    • Logo Fiskeriet

      2015 Andersen Nilsen AS becomes part of INSULA

      INSULA buys "Fiskeriet Youngstorget", perhaps Oslo's best fish restaurant, and an important part of the cityscape in Norway's capital.

      2015 Seafood group INSULA is established

      Seafood group Insula AS is established. At the time of establishment, the group consists of the Lofotprodukt AS and Marenor AB companies.

    • Logo Marenor

      2014 Lofotprodukt establishes itself in Sweden through the acquisition of Marenor AB

      Lofotprodukt acquires Domstein Foods AB, which specializes in the production of the chain's own brands. The company changes its name to Marenor AB.

    • Logo First Seafood

      2014 First Seafood AS is established

      Andreas Sundnes launches First Seafood AS specializing in the purchase and sale of consumer-packed fresh and frozen fish from Oslo, Norway.

    • Logo Fiskeriet

      2013 Andersen Nilsen AS is established

      One of Oslo's best fish restaurants and fish shops, named "Fiskeriet Youngstorget", welcomes Norwegian seafood lovers in for a treat.

    • Manger logo

      2011 Manger Seafood AS becomes part of Lofotprodukt AS

      Lofotprodukt AS acquires shares in Manger Seafood AS, and co-locates the production with Madam Bergen in Godvik outside Bergen. Owner Rune Fanebust continues as a salesperson in Lofotprodukt AS.

    • Logo Frøya

      2010 Frøya Salmon AS is established

      The company takes the freshest and best salmon loin farmed in Frøya, Trøndelag in Norway, to the world market.

    • Logo Madam Bergen

      2009 Madam Bergen becomes part of Lofotprodukt AS

      The company behind Bergenserne's favorite fishcakes is acquired by Lofotprodukt AS. Production of the traditional heart-shaped fishcakes continues in Godvik outside Bergen, Norway.

    • Logo Vardøbruket

      2005 Vardøbruket AS is established

      Vardøbruket AS opens as a conventional fish reception in Vardø, north of Norway.

    • Logo Conchilia

      2004 Conchilia AS is established

      The companies HitraMat AS, Seashell AS, and Åkra Sjømat among others, assemble into the holding company Conchilia AS, based in Hitra, Norway.

    • Logo Maritim Food

      1999 Maritim Food AS is established

      The company is established as a result of the merger between E. Slorer Jacobsen & co AS and Fader Martin AS. Both companies have a long tradition related to food production in Gjerdsvika and Fredrikstad, Norway, respectively.

    • Logo Tobø

      1997 TOBØ Fisk AS is established

      Tor Bjarne Stabell and Børge Johansen establish the fishing industry company Tobø Fisk AS in Havøysund, Norway.

    • Logo Sjoboden

      1997 Sjöboden allt i fisk is established

      The company starts selling fish and shellfish from Stockholm, Sweden.

    • Logo Seashell

      1997 Seashell AS is established

      Seashell AS begins with the capture, production, and sale of scallops and other coastal species from Nordyrøy in the municipality of Frøya, Norway.

    • Lofoten logo

      1994 Lofotprodukt AS is established

      Lofotprodukt AS sees the light of day in Lofoten, Norway. The company behind the LOFOTEN brand would later become the foundation of the insula seafood group.

    • Flagg Finland

      1992 Kuopion Kalatukku Oy is established

      Kuopion Kalatukku Oy, which later becomes Escamar Seafood Oy, starts production of fresh fish, smoked and marinated salmon in Kuopio, Finland.

    • Logo Åkra sjømat

      1992 Åkra seafood AS is established

      Svein and Heidi Torsen start a business of cleaning crab at Åkra in Karmøy municipality, Norway.

    • Logo Domstein

      1991 Domstein Foods AB is established

      Domstein establishes its Swedish seafood business in Kungshamn and Lysekil, Sweden.

    • Logo Madam Bergen

      1991 Madam Bergen AS is established

      The company starts the production and sale of heart-shaped fishcakes and other fish food "made with love" in Bergen, Norway.

    • Logo Lobster

      1990 Lobster Seafood AB is established

      Arne Björklund starts importing fresh and frozen seafood delicacies to from all over the world to Stockholm, for sale to wholesalers and catering customers primarily in Sweden.

    • Logo MaxMat

      1985 MaxMat AS is established

      MaxMat AS starts seafood production from two factories in Bodø, Norway.

    • Logo Båtsfjordbruket

      1981 Båtsfjordbruket AS is established

      Båtsfjordbruket AS starts the purchase of fresh fish and king crab in Finnmark, Norway.

    • Logo Västkustfile

      1974 Västkustfilé AB is established

      The Hansson family establishes the production of processed and fresh whitefish products in Varberg, Sweden.

    • Logo Nordic Group

      1967 Nordic Group AS is established

      Under the leadership of Oddleiv Korsnes, the company is established in Trondheim as a joint venture for the export of fish products from leading whitefish players in northern Norway.

    • Manger logo

      1967 Manger Seafood AS is established

      The Fanebust family establishes the precursor to what in 2006 became Manger Seafood AS, in the municipality of Rødøy, Norway.

    • Logo Fiskcentralen

      1934 Fiskcentralen AS is established

      Local fishmongers in Oslo join forces to gain better access to fresh fish, and Fiskcentralen is established in Oslo Fiskehall, Norway.

    • Logo Berggren

      1924 Berggren AS is established

      The Berggren family starts up with fish food production in Kongsvinger, Norway.

    • 555 logo

      1916 Amanda Seafoods AS is established

      Amanda Seafoods is established in Kerteminde, Denmark, under the brand name 555. The company's first products are canned fish balls and boneless herring.

    • Logo HitraMat

      1905 HitraMat AS is established

      Sivert Fjeldvær starts with the catch, production, and sale of crab from Hitra, Norway.
